Overcharged for luggage

Hi I travelled through westjet on this Monday. I had three luggages and one was already included in the ticket. That lady charged me above 350 dollars for three luggages. I told her one is already included in the ticket and she did not respond properly. She was so rude.

Company fixed the issue and I have been provided with product replacement. They provided me with another trip but different location so they will reimburse me for the travel costs.

Original review Feb 25, 2024
It is against the law to bait and switch in Ontario, Canada. I booked my flight over a month ago to receive an email today saying one or more was canceled.

When I click the link to get alternative accommodations it send me to a customer service page which never answers I have sat waiting over 10 hours before and never got through.
When I checked the flights I booked are still available just going for way more money.
I will be very upset if I dont get to attend my grandfathers memorial.

If this isnt addressed prior to March 26th I will be going to TICO, BBB, Consumer Affairs, the news and radio & the CTC, I will also file a claim in civil court. This is unacceptable.

  • Hard to get through to
  • Customer service is unreliable

Preferred solution: I want my flights rebooked as I need to attend a memorial. It will cost me way more to book with another airline as Air Transat had a deal that I passed up due to me already booking and being confirmed with West Jet

User's recommendation: Do not book woth WestJet as they will pull the rug out from under u and then not call u when u use their request a call system

Failed to refund my money!

WestJet - Failed to refund my money!

If there was a number lower than 1 that would be my rating. My flight ws1936 saskatoon to las vegas cancelled jan12 after delaying 6 times.sent home late at night. no hotel, just told to go home.I live 300km away.

Then after almost 3 weeks of trying to phone their 1-800 number I decide to spam their Facebook ad comments to get their attention!.It worked. After arguing with Talia the online agent,I finally get my westjet dollars back. That to me is an admission of wrong doing on westjets part. So after that I press for a ticket refund and although it took almost 3 weeks to get, I was fully refunded. So I asked for my money lost due to having to get a hotel room in saskatoon due to the lateness, temperature and the distance home and that part of the drive would be in the middle of the night on a deserted grid road, and I am 70 years old.

Next I ask for the 744 dollars I am out because westjet did not get me to las vegas to pick up my rental car and the rentalcar. com person will not refund me saying its westjets fault. I have to agree it is totally westjets fault. I started getting delay notices at 10:11 on jan 12 that my flight was delayed. They Knew At that point the weather was only going to worsen at that point!

instead of cancelling and giving people a chance to cancel reservations at their destinations they just continued delaying again at 12:10,2:25,4:45, 7:51:20:51 and then telling us we were going to board ,de-ice and had a 9 Minute window to taxi and take off. That was a lie! No attempt was made to de-ice the plane! how do i know?

I had a window seat at the front of the left wing and took pictures of the ice and snow on it with no one attempting to remove it.The crew chuckelled as we were unboarded, reminding us all that they had tried.

It was very poor acting.

They refunded my westjet dollars.refunded my seat, baggage, and flight money because THEY were wrong. Now they should refund my car rental and hotel bill because they were wrong.

RE: WestJet New Aircraft Order

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

Dear Mr. Von Hoensbroech, I hope this email finds you well.

I am writing in regards to WestJet's fleet modernization plans and how the airline should modernize its fleet in order to meet growing demand. Currently, WestJet has orders for 32 Boeing 737-7 jets from Boeing, As the Boeing 737-7 continues to face certification problems, WestJet should plan on converting 16 MAX 7 orders into the MAX 8, while the other 16 orders for the MAX 7 should be converted into the even larger MAX 10. Once WestJet goes ahead with the order conversion, the airline should go ahead to place an order with Airbus for 60 Airbus A220-300's. The reason behind this is to enable WestJet to seek a replacement for both the already retired Boeing 737-600 as well as the Boeing 737-700, which is currently flying with WestJet.

With this order, the A220 would become the first Airbus aircraft to ever join the WestJet fleet, as the airline has had a long-history as an all-Boeing operator since its launch in 1996. WestJet should expect its first A220-300 to join the fleet in 2026 with deliveries occurring between 2026 and 2030. By 2030, WestJet should expect to have 60 A220-300's in its fleet. WestJet should expect the deal to be worth roughly $2 billion USD in list prices.

An MoU for the A220-300 should be signed with Airbus at the 2024 Farnborough Airshow with the order expected to be finalized in September. Before WestJet can even order the A220, the airline would need to start discussions with Airbus over a potential A220 order. Discussions with Airbus over a potential A220-300 order should begin in April with discussions over such a deal continuing until such an order has been announced. In a previous message, I wrote regarding how WestJet should upgrade its interiors on its current fleet of Boeing 737's (both -800 and MAX 8's) with seatback entertainment and inflight connectivity.

WestJet should plan on equipping its A220 fleet in a two-class configuration with all seats in the cabin featuring seatback entertainment and Starlink inflight connectivity being equipped on this type of aircraft. The airline should also seek to become the launch customer for an Airspace equipped A220, which should be declared once WestJet finalizes a deal with Airbus for 60 A220-300 planes. As the A220-300 is a natural replacement for older WestJet aircraft such as the already retired 737-600 and the currently flown 737-700, WestJet should plan on ordering the A220, as the smallest variant in the B737 MAX series, the B737-7, wouldn't work as a replacement for older WestJet planes in the segment and the best option for WestJet to replace both the B737-600 and B737-700 is for WestJet to order the A220. Before WestJet can get its Boeing 737 pilots familiar with the A220, the airline should plan on seeking a 5 year contract with Air Canada to help train B737 pilots for when it's time for them to start flying the A220, as well as to get pilots familiar with this aircraft type.

I kindly request WestJet to consider the following suggestions as potential ideas for its short to medium haul fleet modernization. I am eagerly looking forward to seeing these plans come to fruition and anticipating a timely response from you soon!

Sincerely,

Tran Jacinto

Left stranded mid journey, and west jet won't reimburse expenses

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

left my home on january 11th and finally made it to my destination on January 15th. had to purchase an Air Canada ticket to make my final leg of the journey.

west jet refused to reimburse my Air Canada ticket; but as they cancelled the last leg of my journey and it was impossible to contact them and they did not contact me, I went ahead and booked a flight so I could get to where I was going. The flights were going for $1,000 each from Toronto to Tampa, I opted for Air Canada at $365 per ticket. Good thing, they refused to pay for the tickets; saying they would give us $160 total because this was the cost of the unused portion which was cancelled. I spent 4 nights in hotels across canada to get us to where we were going.

With a 3 year old. There was not enough crew for any of the flights.

They should have booked us on Air Canada or anyone else. Why sell tickets?

Resolved: RE: WestJet 737 Cabin Upgrade Plan

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Updated by user Nov 28, 2023

Response from Customer Service on behalf of WestJet's CEO Alexis von Hoensbroech.

Original review Nov 21, 2023
Dear Mr. Von Hoensbroech, As a member of the flying public, I, Tran Jacinto, am writing in regards to a retrofit plan that WestJet should announce in the near future.

The reason why WestJet should retrofit its current fleet of Boeing 737's is to enable the airline to improve its onboard cabin product and to take the onboard passenger experience to a whole new level. WestJet should announce plans to retrofit its current fleet of Boeing 737's with the latest onboard product as well as newly delivered 737's being retrofitted with these cabins in Economy Class. The 737's that should undergo a significant cabin upgrade is the Boeing 737-800 and the Boeing 737-8 (MAX 8) with the cabin product on the B737-700 remaining unchanged, as the aircraft eventually needs replacing in a few short years. Here are the cabin products that WestJet should install on its fleet of Boeing 737's:
Premium Cabin: Safran Z535i
Screen Type: Panasonic Astrova IFE
Number of Seats: 12
Economy Cabin: Collins Meridian
Screen Type: Thales Avant IFE
Number of Seats: 162
WestJet should begin retrofitting its fleet of Boeing 737's from 2025 onwards with all B737's expected to receive the new cabin products by 2027.

From 2025 onwards, all newly delivered B737's should feature the latest onboard product. The seating patterns with the retrofitted cabins should be the same ones currently found on some 737's with WestJet's updated seating upholstery, but the reason behind the change is to allow WestJet to improve the onboard passenger experience, as well as enabling passengers to fly on WestJet in the near future. The airline should expect a $10 billion dollar price tag on its overhaul to retrofit its current fleet of Boeing 737's. Along with this, WestJet should also equip its Boeing 737-800's with the Boeing Sky Interior, as well as making the Boeing 737-800 more fuel efficient, like the Boeing 737-8.

As a result, WestJet should also be equipping all its planes, with the exception of the Boeing 737-700 with Inflight Connectivity (IFC) service with the selected IFC being Starlink, which would offer high-speed connectivity at 40,00 feet.

I kindly request WestJet to consider the following suggestions as potential ideas for its schedule changes. I am eagerly looking forward to seeing these plans come to fruition and anticipating a timely response from you soon!
Sincerely,
Tran Jacinto

WestJet - I have been waiting 2 days.
My partner's flight (Calgary to Nanaimo WS 3153) has been cancelled 2 days in a row due to nebulous WJ claims (transponder... staff...) WJ has offered food vouchers, hotels stays. But, this isn't even the busiest Christmas season. They waited at the airport for hours, with poor communication ("We will be boarding late." " We are going to a different gate,") only to hear that the flight was cancelled.

West Jet Vacation Refund

I emailed a month ago about a West Jet Vacation Package that we booked in PV from Jan.20-Jan 31. When we arrived at the hotel (Krystal Grand Nuevo) we were placed in a very small room with lights that did not work nor the bed that we had booked.

We complained and were moved to a different spot again without the bed or view we had booked. Four days later we were moved again to another room. We were still in a double bed not the room we had booked for this vacation. We spoke to the West Jet representative at this resort and his response was " That's the way it goes" He was very rude and dismissive and did not help or compensate in any way for this package.

We spoke to other tourists in this resort and often this was a problem. Some of them were moved to a better room and some of them received free massages, free booking of A la carte rooms. This was certainly not the case for myself and my husband. We were in a large group of 12 people whom have travelled to Mexico many times and are frequent flyers on West Jet.

I dont think this kind of publicity is welcome on Facebook or other travel agencies.

We are looking for compensation for not receiving the room we booked and having to move three times without any compensation for our inconvenience. Our reservation code was LYIYQR.

I would prefer if this could be settled with a credit in Westjet dollars, instead of going through a government program.
